The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria Bayelsa chapter has revealed that the state-owned rice will be selling in the market by December this year [2015].

This is part of efforts to boost food production in the state and the country at large.

The Association’s state Chairman, Mr Ezekiel Ogbianko, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Yenagoa that the brand name for the rice is “Oyoyo.”

Ogbianko said taking the rice to the market by December 2015, was necessary as it would bring surplus food to the people, especially during the yuletide.

He however  added that the Oyoyo bag of rice  will sell for  N7,000 saying that the decision  to bring the price down is to enable  the common man to benefit in the forthcoming Christmas period.

He stressed that in Bayelsa State, there are  three phases of rice harvest every year; the first stage  saw an  harvest of  over 400 bags; the second stage,  800 bags of paddy rice, while the third phase will come between December and January 2016.”
