Hot chocolate serving ‘has more salt?

A campaign group,  Consensus Action on Salt and Health  has declared that  a mug of hot chocolate can have more salt than a packet of ready salted crisps.

This is according to the BBC which revealed that Consensus Action on Salt and Health found salt targets were exceeded in all but one category of packaged food.

Nigeria’s ministry of health commissions experts to investigate benzoic acid saga!

The Federal Ministry of Health has reportedly  commissioned a group of experts to urgently investigate and submit a report on the recent judgement in a case involving an exporter, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and the Nigerian Bottling Company, NBC, producers of Coca-Cola.

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole who disclosed this on his twitter handle, @isaacFAdewole, said he has also requested a meeting with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, SON, to discuss the issue today 17th March 2017.

Much ado about benzoic acid in soft drinks in Nigeria 1!

A Lagos High Court in Igbosere recently ordered the National Agency For Food, Drug Administration and Control  to mandate the Nigerian Bottling Company PLC, manufacturers of Coke, Fanta and Sprite soft drinks, to include a written warning that the content of the bottles cannot be taken with Vitamin C.

In a judgement delivered by Justice Adedayo Oyebanji on Monday March 6th 2017, the court warned that taking the soft drinks with Vitamin C is poisonous.

Lime as a  vitamin enriched fruit is  said to be  used by many women as a family planning measure!

This is particularly common amongst some women  in Nigeria where  I come from. A particular woman told me that lime is usually mixed with kaun [potash] and when taken, especially after coitus, the result is a very effective anti – pregnancy move! Well, this is off the record!
