NAFDAC to enforce ban on sachet sized alcohol

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has initiated the enforcement of a ban on the importation, production, distribution, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, made this announcement during a press conference in Abuja.

Her words “Effective January 31, 2024, no alcoholic beverage falling within these categories has been registered by NAFDAC.”

She further stated that the agency has commenced enforcement actions to ensure the strict implementation of this directive.

Adeyeye stated that the grace period provided to manufacturers for the sale of existing stock of alcoholic drinks in this category expired on January 31, 2024.”

This move by NAFDAC aims to address public health concerns associated with the consumption of small-sized alcoholic beverages, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of consumers across Nigeria.
