The Managing Director/Chief Executive, Nestle Nigeria Plc, Mr. Dharnesh Gordhon, has declared that there is a link between the cognitive development of pupils and good nutrition.
Gordhon made the declaration in Ibadan the Oyo state capital, during the Nestle Healthy Kids Teachers’ workshop in the State.
Urging parents and teachers to ensure that their children embraced healthy living, he stressed that the workshop aims at raising participants’ awareness on the importance of good nutrition and an active lifestyle.
According to him, the company is collaborating with Universal Basic Education Board, state ministries of education and health, as well as the Centre for Health Education, Population and Nutrition to organise the programme.
Gordhon said the initiative was an integral part of the company’s commitment to improving nutrition through awareness, improved knowledge and effective practice for healthy eating and regular physical activity.
He noted that regular physical activity and healthy eating habit would help schoolchildren to achieve and maintain healthy body weight, which will enable them to become healthy adults.
The programme also served as a forum to remind participants on the need to keep the Ebola Virus Disease at bay by maintaining good hand-washing habit among pupils.
