Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the release of 10,000 tons of grains from the national strategic grains reserve for national distribution in order to counter food price increases. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, revealed this in a statement in Abuja last night.
The president has also directed the Minister of Agriculture Audu Ogbeh to ensure that all the able-bodied men and women in Internally Displaced Persons camps be assisted to return to farming immediately.
This according to reports is a way of cushioning the effect of poverty and hunger in the land as well as setting a counter measure to the current astronomic prices of goods and seeming exploitation within the market system.
