The Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Leather Science and Technology, Zaria, Dr. Isuwa Adamu, has warned against the consumption of “ponmo.”
He said the consumption of the delicacy as meat substitute posed serious danger to health arguing that ponmo lacked nutritional value to human health.
Ponmo is a Nigerian local meat – delicacy that is relished amongst the South Western populace.
When cooked and properly garnished with the right condiments, its taste can be irresistible.
It is prepared from animal skin specially roasted and processed in the local abattoir for human consumption. For many, it is a delicacy that enriches soups such as egusi, okro and ogbono or any other soup.
