Tomatoes are fruits, not veggies

Tomatoes ???? are described as love apples, vegetables, and fruits by different people.

These global red berries are seen everywhere around the world but in different shapes, colours, and sizes.

Tomatoes are botanically defined as fruits because they are formed from a flower and contain seeds. But they are mostly used like a vegetable in cooking.

There is no hard-and-fast rule that notes that as botanical fruits, they cannot be seen as vegetables.

But, since tomatoes are generally not used in desserts and are closely related to other fruit-vegetables like eggplants and peppers, amongst others, it is okay to classify tomatoes as vegetables.

Reports say the US Supreme Court ruled in 1893 that tomatoes should be classified as vegetables on the basis of its culinary applications.

Nutritionally, tomatoes as “fruit” are sweet and fleshy.

But as vegetables, they are served as part of the main dish or side dish.
