NAFDAC reacts to saccharine-baked bread insinuations

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has responded to a widely shared video that tends to show Nigerians shouldn’t eat bread because it contains saccharine.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, stressed in a statement given to PUNCH Healthwise that the video’s content is not an authentic representation of the agency’s observations or conclusions.

This is however coming from a recent stakeholders’ meeting that took place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on August 16, 2024.

The video, which was shared on social media by a reporter, stated that NAFDAC had sent warnings about bread failing laboratory tests because bakers were substituting saccharine for sugar since sugar prices were increasing.

Adeyeye has therefore clarified to the public, while asserting that NAFDAC is not associated with these allegations, nonetheless.
